NC Historical Records Online is extremely pleased to announce that our project to digitize all the North Carolina land grant loose documents (“the shucks”) is now fully funded! Our thanks go to over 100 individual donors contributing anywhere from $16 to almost $1000, with a total of almost $10,000 received in 9 months. For more information about these images and how to view them on our free website, see http://nchistoricalrecords.org/landgrants/
We recently uploaded 57,000 new images for the following counties: Ashe, Avery, Bath, Bute, Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Davie, Durham, Henderson, Hoke, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Scotland, Transylvania, Wilson, and No County Given. That brings the total number of images on the website to 728,000.
Digitization is currently in progress for Carteret, Craven, Duplin, and Randolph. If all goes well they should be online sometime in March.
That leaves 254 reels to be digitized, and we are hoping to have them all online sometime by end of summer/early fall resulting in well over a million total images. You can view the status at http://nclandgrants.com/shuckstat/ .
Projects for 2022 include ongoing digitization of microfilm and paper records from the State Archives of North Carolina, putting digital images of original documents held by individuals or organizations online, a new website for records other than land grants, educational workshops, and the launch of a new journal dedicated to North Carolina Original Records. Stay tuned!
